Larch Season...
.
I can’t believe it’s over already.
.
Year three of larch hunting, and sadly, a bit of a miss. No golden cathedrals of soft-needled trees this time. Instead, we ran through the first snow, magical and humbling, as drifted branches brushed our legs and slowed our pace to a glacial crawl. After miles of clearing the trail, we finally called it. Not a single larch seen up close, not one touched (oh, how I love their soft needles!).
.
But while this year was a miss, I’m looking back on the last two (this video’s from last year) with a kind of lust for late fall, because somehow this time we skipped straight to winter in the high country.
