For the past two years, I've told myself this mantra.

Since 2015 Nick Kleiner and I take hours together each December to daydream a guiding word for the coming year.

If we let go of expectation where would that leave us with our intentions?

Places where our tracks in the snowfall like the steady flakes that catch on the evergreens.

Slowly, we're making our way out of the long dark days.

With the world slowing in early 2020, I spent a lot of time thinking about what "friendship" entails.

We're creeping up on one year since physical touch was a normal part of the world.

Places that glisten with the fulfilled promise of countless snowflakes falling in the hours we slept.

A wearer of soft and lazy smiles.

The hatred is palpable.
